The Spinto Band have been recording together since the '90s, but the power-pop vets venture even farther back for their newest video. As seen above, the clip for "Amy + Jen" — a delirious, tightly arranged highlight off this year's Cool Cocoon — packs in a rush of vintage visuals...

Before Jens Lekman released 2012's underrated I Know What Love Isn't, the Swedish crooner's output favored samples over live instrumentation. Now the perennially heartbroken tunesmith has returned to his chopped-pop roots for a remix of "14th of July" by fellow Swedes Shout Out Louds...

Every so often, Verve Records likes to give contemporary producers the keys to the castle, letting the mix-masters of the day imbue the jazz and soul hits of yore with new context. And most of the time, if we're being honest, it's about as interesting as you'd expect: simply novelty, or something trapped in a milquetoast middle ground that doesn't do either artist any favors...

It's rare that a music video alters the perception of a song, but most people viewing the Eugene Kotlyarenko-helmed clip for Slava's "Girl Like Me" will find it hard to dislodge the imagery from their minds. The standout cut from Raw Solutions, the full-length debut from Brooklyn-based producer and Moscow transplant Slava Balasanov, has plenty of dark shades-- a tinge of desperation to the pitch-shifted vocal, hints of sadness from the two-note grind looping through its center, and an accumulated sense of tension as each element is expertly tacked on.

Those parts are masterfully strung together, but the overall feel becomes sufficiently heightened by that payoff from Kotlyarenko's video. What's impressive is how well the track and the visuals complement one another in such a distressing manner. It's like watching two opposing forces gradually dragging each other further down into the darkness, forming an inextricable link without a trace of redemption at its close.
