This year, in 2014, just as Beatport marks its 10th anniversary, Lloyd Starr, 35, has been named acting president. It's a leadership role that the former COO has been diligently working towards over his past decade with the company. You might say he's been groomed for the position. Recently, the door opened due to former CEO Matt Adell's exit last month. So, after much internal discussion, Starr has stepped in and up, and has never looked back. In a new mini-interview with leading music industry publication Billboard, Beatport's new helmer opens up about the future of the digital dance music download platform, his overarching plan to increase the organization's social media reach, their ongoing cat-and-mouse game with download farms, and the true meaning of EDM.

 Red Bull Music Academy feature film up for free digital release
In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Red Bull Music Academy invited award-winning director Ralf Schmerberg to create a full-length feature film. Shooting during the 2013 edition of the Red Bull Music Academy in New York, Schmerberg’s What Difference Does It Make? A Film About Making Music, explores the challenges that a life in music can bring.

Available for free digital download from 18th February from RBMA’s official website, the film features Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Brian Eno, Just Blaze, Giorgio Moroder, Erykah Badu, Nile Rodgers, Rakim, Skream, Q-Tip, Thundercat and many other artists who have either lectured or been studio tutors at the Academy.       London bass specialists Boddika and Joy Orbison have kept a bit of a low profile on the release front in 2013, though the VIP version of their "Mercy" tune from 2012 did nab a high-ranking spot on our list of the Top Tracks of 2013. 2014 looks like it'll kickstart the pair's collaborative output early on, as a two-track 12" has been announced for January with a preview of both sides.
