The album will be accompanied by a short film directed by Yorke and Paul Thomas Anderson.
Thom Yorke will release a new solo album this month. Described by Yorke in an interview as “dystopian”, ANIMA was written and produced in collaboration with Nigel Godrich and will be accompanied by a short film of the same name: a “one-reeler” directed by Yorke and Paul Thomas Anderson. The albums follows Yorke’s soundtrack for Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria remake, which was released at the end of last year. ANIMA will be available on CD, double vinyl and on digital formats, as well as in a deluxe edition featuring drawings by frequent Radiohead collaborator Stanley Donwood. All editions are available to pre-order now. Both the album and the film will be released on July 27, with the film showing on Netflix and in select IMAX cinemas. Check out the cover art and tracklist below.

First up is Raving Disco Breaks Vol. 1, a new cassette mixtape from Eris Drew.
Octo Octa and her partner Eris Drew have launched a new record label, T4T LUV NRG. Developed from their much-loved dance parties of the same name, the new imprint will release “limited edition alchemical objects for use in DJing, dancing, kissing and crying”. First up is Raving Disco Breaks Vol. 1, a new cassette mixtape from Eris Drew. Using ’90s turntablism techniques inspired by Chicago radio DJs, Drew blends old disco records with broken beat, Miami bass and rave tunes to stitch together a destructive summer mix. A limited run of Raving Disco Breaks Vol. 1 cassettes are available to buy now, with all profits going to Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP), which works to guarantee that all people are free to self-determine their gender identity and expression, regardless of income or race, and without facing harassment, discrimination, or violence. Check out the cover art and tracklist below. Next up on T4T LUV NRG will be a double 12″ album by Octo Octa, her first since 2017’s Where Are We Going. Grainy vids from Lionel Richie, Lady Gaga and more are getting cleaned up.
Blurry YouTube music videos for classics like Boys II Men’s ‘End Of The Road’, Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’, Janet Jackson’s ‘When I Think Of You’ and, yes, Smash Mouth’s ‘All Star’ have been remastered in HD as part of a project between the streaming platform and Universal Music Group. UMG worked with a number of obsolete formats to create the new versions, which replace the original videos while keeping the original URL and view counts. According to The New York Times, UMG consulted with artists and directors to make sure the end result was as true to the original vision as possible. Spike Jonze’s ‘Sabotage’ video, for example, was cleaned up to ensure the retro ’70s cop show aesthetic was preserved. "The graininess of a tube television set, which is what they were going for, is not the dithery compression artifact that you can see on a highly compressed video, so cleaning it up went more to the retro intent,” said Barak Moffitt, Universal's executive vice president of content strategy and operation. Other artists to get the HD treatment so far include Lady Gaga, Tom Petty, Lionel Richie, Kiss and the Spice Girls. YouTube and UMG are aiming to remaster over 1,000 videos by the end of 2020. The product of insomnia, intoxication and a nervous breakdown.
Iranian composer Siavash Amini will release his new album, Serus, on Lawrence English’s ambient imprint Room40. Described by the label as “an ode to night; literal and metaphorical”, the album sees Amini employing experimental electronics and post-classical arrangements to explore physical and symbolic conceptions of the night time. Influenced in part by the French philosopher Maurice Blanchot and his theories of the night, the album was a product of what Amini describes as a period of insomnia and intoxication, ultimately resulting in a nervous breakdown. “This experience”, he explains, “culminating in me spending three days in ICU, gave me pause to think about Blanchot's words.” Serus is out on August 2 and is available to pre-order now. Check out the cover art and tracklist below. Tracklist: 01. ‘A Recollection Of The Disappeared’ 02. ‘Semblance’ 03. ‘All That Remained Pt.1’ 04. ‘All That Remained Pt. 2’ Read next: Logos on the classic methods behind his genre-bending club and ambient experiments The post Siavash Amini crafts an ode to the night on new album Serus appeared first on FACT Magazine: Music News, New Music.. |

The latest nod to the Belgian designer’s love of techno.
Raf Simons included a homage to R&S Records in his Spring/Summer 2020 collection, which he debuted at Paris Fashion Week yesterday (June 19). Walking down the runway to the sounds of Mica Levi's Under The Skin soundtrack, one model wore an oversized T-shirt featuring the label’s iconic logo. Other looks also seemed to reference the spirit of rave, featuring smiley face ecstasy pill designs. |

He was 52.
Philippe ‘Zdar’ Cerboneschi, French super producer and one half of seminal house group Cassius, died yesterday (June 19) when he accidently fell through a window in a building in Paris, reports Le Monde.
Cerboneschi began producing in 1988 for French hip-hop artist MC Solaar, alongside Hubert Blanc-Francard, aka Boom Bass, with whom he would go on to found Cassius in 1996. He was also one half of Motorbass, the legendary French house project he created alongside producer Étienne de Crécy.
More recently, Cerboneschi was well known as a producer and engineer, collaborating with artists including Kanye West, Cat Power, Phoenix, Robyn, Chromeo, The Rapture, Franz Ferdinand and, most recently, Hot Chip on their new album A Bath Full Of Ecstasy.
Dreems, Cassius’ follow-up to their 2016 album Ibifornia, is set for release this Friday (June 21).

Shocked by the passing of Philippe Zdar. an incredible career and legacy. His work in the early days with Le Funk Mob and Etienne de Crecy gave French electronic music a gold standard that fulfilled its promise through Cassius, Daft Punk and beyond . RIP to the Motorbass— Gilles Peterson (@gillespeterson) June 20, 2019
He mixed Needy Girl & Rage for the Euro release of our 1st album. Then he mixed the entire Fancy Footwork album. Then Business Casual. He played a huge role in developing our sound. We're devastated. RIP Philippe Zdar of Cassius, Motorbass & La Funk Mob, a true musical genius. pic.twitter.com/Y7pNmzREyt— FUNKLORDZ (@Chromeo) June 20, 2019

RIP Philippe Zdar of Cassius. He was one of the first real stars of music I got to spend time with in 2004 at RBMA Rome. Will never forget the impact his conversation had on me and his music still inspires me to this day. What a tragic loss. Heart is with @edbangerrecords
