Ghanaian producer and DJ Gafacci's new EP Tash BNM sees the producer blending minimal afrobeats with lo-fi sounds. Lead track ‘Like Water’ features New York-born R&B singer Amaarae lending her vocals to a lilting afrobeat ballad. Earlier this year he released an afrobeat edit collection DANCEFLOOR PACK, which includes remixes of tracks by Rae Sremmurd, Mala and Crystal Waters. His debut EP Ahunda was released last year. Tash BNM arrives on July 11 and is available to pre-order now. Check out the cover art and tracklist, and check out Amaarae’s Against The Clock session, below. “Wide-eyed and naïve” music from a young Paul Woolford.
Paul Woolford's second Special Request album of the year is made up of material rediscovered by the Leeds producer in a box of cassettes during a house move. Bedroom Tapes arrives via Houndstooth on June 28, and captures some of Woolford’s “most wide-eyed and naïve creative impulses at a tender age”. Some of the album’s eight tracks came from sessions that resulted in his signing to the defunct UK techno label Blue Basique. Woolford’s first album of 2019, Vortex, arrived last month boasting a collection of “bowel-evacuating bangers". He’s expected to release two more Special Request albums on Houndstooth in the near future. Tracklist: 01. ‘Panaflex Sunrise’ 02. ‘Pineal Gland’ 03. ‘Thermatropic’ 04. ‘Shoreline’ 05. ‘Entropy’ 06. ‘Xenospin’ 07. ‘Double Rainbow’ 08. ‘Phosphorescence’ Read next: Deep Inside – June 2019's must-hear house and techno playlist The post Special Request delves into his archives on Bedroom Tapes album appeared first on FACT Magazine: Music News, New Music.. |

A unique fusion of techno and industrial with North Mexican regional music.
Debit’s next EP for N.A.A.F.I. sees the producer combining techno and industrial elements with tribal guarachero, a North Mexican regional music characterised by a triplet-driven beat and pre-Hispanic samples. In Debit's "reconstruction" of the genre on SYSTEM, the samples and high-pitched melody lines are absent, drawing the listener's attention towards the timbres and harmonics of the beats instead. The EP draws influence from the producer’s close-reading of Tzotzil literature, as well as her use of the Mayan language as a lens through which to interrogate unquestioned social phenomena, such as the alphabet or numerical systems. SYSTEM is out on June 20 and is available to pre-order now. Check out the incredible cover art, designed by Mexican artist and designer Victor Barragán, and tracklist below. You can also revisit DEBIT’s killer FACT mix from last year. Debit will celebrate the launch of the EP at Elsewhere alongside N.A.A.F.I. affiliates Zutzut and Fausto Bahia on June 21. Tickets are available here. Tracklist: 01. ‘The Alphabet’ [Feat. Javier Estrada] 02. ‘Encounters’ 03. ‘My House’ 04. ‘The Market’ 05. ‘Medicine’ 06. ‘Numbering’ [Feat. DJ Earl] Read next: The 10 best labels of 2018 The post Debit reconstructs tribal guarachero on new EP, SYSTEM appeared first on FACT Magazine: Music News, New Music.. |

The first release from supərpawərz, a new contemporary electronic music label from Brussels.
Producer Metome has enlisted Total Freedom and Renick Bell to remix tracks from his forthcoming EP, Shibboleth. Listen to Renick Bell’s frenetic take on ‘Exotic’, which takes the skeletal synth stabs and choppy vocal cuts of the original and bends them into a generative club belter. Metome is an electronic artist based in Osaka who has been producing since 2013. His genre-spanning club constructions draw from pop music, grime and even nu-jazz. Shibboleth is out on June 14. Check out the cover art, which was designed by Oliver van der Lugt (aka Air Max 97) and tracklist below. Tracklist: 01. ‘Itch Shopping’ 02. ‘Exotic’ 03. ‘Lady Mondegreen’ 04. ‘Gumball’ 05. ‘Little Women’ 06. ’50 Minutes’ 07. ‘Gumball (Total Freedom Remix)’ 08. ‘Exotic (Renick Bell Remix)’ Read next: 7 must-hear mixes from May 2019 The post Total Freedom and Renick Bell remix Osaka-based producer Metome on Shibboleth appeared first on FACT Magazine: Music News, New Music.. |

It’s only available for 18 days, and proceeds go to Extinction Rebellion.
Radiohead have released an 18-hour collection of unheard OK Computer-era music, which the band claims was stolen and held to a $150,000 ransom by a hacker who threatened to leak it. The album will be available from Bandcamp for 18 days for £18, with the proceeds going to Extinction Rebellion. “We got hacked last week – someone stole Thom's minidisk archive from around the time of OK Computer, and reportedly demanded $150,000 on threat of releasing it,” Jonny Greenwood wrote on Facebook. “So instead of complaining – much – or ignoring it, we're releasing all 18 hours on Bandcamp in aid of Extinction Rebellion: https://radiohead.bandcamp.com “Just for the next 18 days. So for £18 you can find out if we should have paid that ransom. “Never intended for public consumption (though some clips did reach the cassette in the OK Computer reissue) it's only tangentially interesting. And very, very long. Not a phone download. Rainy out, isn't it though?” Read next: 7 pieces of gear that helped shape Radiohead's timeless OK Computer The post Radiohead release hacked OK Computer-era music following ransom demand appeared first on FACT Magazine: Music News, New Music.. |

The inaugural release from the newly minted Velocity Press.
Journalist Matt Anniss will release his long-awaited book Join The Future: Bleep Techno and the Birth of British Bleep Music with the newly minted London-based publishers Velocity Press. Join The Future features interviews with some of the key players in the bleep scene, as well as a developed history of the genre, contextualising it as an essential part of post-industrial British dance music. According to Anniss, the book was borne out of a conversation he once had in a club regarding bass music in Britain, in which he highlighted the genre’s origins in bleep techno, also known as ‘Sheffield bleep’ and ‘bleep and bass’. To illustrate his point, Anniss recorded a mix that joined the dots between classic examples of the short-lived style and contemporary bass tunes. The original mix has since been deleted, but you can listen to an updated one above. Join The Future arrives on December 2, and will be the first release from Velocity Press. You can pre-order the book now.
