Skrillex & Dillon Francis on Friendship, Non-Profits & Puking

This past weekend, our Beatportal team journeyed deep into the hills of Georgia to investigate one of America’s wildest spectacles: TomorrowWorld. We spoke with some of the biggest names in dance music gathering the weird and hilarious quotes from David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Nicky Romero, Tiësto, A-Trak and everyone else. Our favorite moment of the weekend, however, was catching up with Skrillex and Dillon Francis (and a quiet TOKiMONSTA), who worried ’bout nothin’, perched atop one another’s shoulders, killing it with jokes. We’ve cut out and posted quotes from the interview throughout the week, so now we figured we’d offer you the whole thing now, in all its Franciscan glory. And hey, since we were the only ones there, and it’s a “pics or it didn’t happen” world, we’ve got pictures to prove it, too.
So, how do you guys know each other? Skrillex: Dillon did the first Mothership tour in 2011. He was on the afterparty bus. That was the funnest tour ever. Four years later here he is. We have different sounds, they're unique, but the energy is the same. You guys have a lot of DJ buds… Dillon Francis: Yeah, Diplo and Skrillex are friends. Orlando, who is TEED [Totally Extinct Enormous Dinosaurs]. We talk all the time. Girls, DJ sets, music, life. We talk about everything. Dillon, you’re on Mad Decent and Skrillex you have your own label, OWSLA. Is there any competition? Skrillex: There's no competition. We're all best friends, we all remix each other and play each other tunes. We're always trying to make new songs and push new sounds. Tell us a about your non-profit, it seems really great. Skrillex: Bridges for Music! It's an awesome non profit my friend Valentino started. We go to South Africa and set up these camps for music. House music is really big over there. 12th Planet did it. Richie Hawtin did it. It's really doing something. Electronic music is so youth cultured, you can do it on a computer, and everyone has a computer. We went to Cape Town, Johannesburg. It's amazing. Dillon, you have an album coming out. Dillon Francis: Yeah, I have a new album, Money Sucks, Friends Rule. The next one is going to be like 50 Cent, but it's Get Rich or Die Trying, Too. You know, getting rich and dying. Like, I'm doing that too, man. Tell us about your single, “When We Were Young.” Dillon Francis: "When We Were Young." I don't think anyone else plays that song, ’cause it's very progressive housey, but when I was young, I've got a story for that…. OK. When you were young… Dillon Francis: When I was young, man. Memories. I remember throwing up on six girls in the back of a cab. I drank a bunch of wine before we got in the cab. My friend was drinking and I was like "No, this is how you do it!" I chugged the wine, we got in a cab and I puked on the six girls. My friend thanked me later because he was like, "Man all the girls are sitting with me now.” OK, so what do you think about TomorrowWorld? Dillon Francis: It's so weird to perform and see your face bobbing in the crowd on a stick. I just stare at myself. It's also weird to see Nicolas Cage. Sylvester, and Bob Saget's face on a stick. The greats… If you could time travel, where would you go? Dillon Francis: If I could travel in time I would stay here. Everything in the past sucks. Medieval times? People getting sawed. Fuck that. That sucks. When was the last time you cried? Dillon Francis: The Green Mile always makes me cry. He's so big and you know he's not supposed to die, but then he does. It makes me want to shed a tear. I'm going to right now. |

David Guetta Reveals New Single, November Album Release David Guetta has announced that his new album, the follow-up to 2011's Nothing but the Beat will be released on Nov. 24. The French dance star delivered the news during a Twitter Q&A with SiriusXM Hits 1, while also adding that he’s got a new song coming out on Monday (Oct 6). "All I can say is that it's completely song-based," Guetta revealed to Billboard. "There are featured artists of course, but none that you'd expect with me, and really it's just completely different from anything I've done before. That's why it has taken almost three years." I have to run! Thank you so much for your questions. New album out November 24th and new song out on Monday! – @DavidGuetta
Krewella Respond to Lawsuit Via Tumblr Yesterday, it was reported that Kris Trindl, formerly known as Rain Man of Krewella, is suing his former group mates, Yasmine and Jahan Yousaf, for unfairly ousting him from the group. The sisters quickly responded, posting a message in their defense on the Krewella Facebook page yesterday, but refusing to “get into any specifics until we can properly respond to the false claims made.” Today, Yasmine has further addressed the lawsuit via her Tumblr, saying she feels “like Harry Potter who is impervious to Voldemort's ill will.” Sounds messy.
