Bring earplugs: from the Who to Kiss, the loudest live acts ever

In rock 'n' roll, volume is a virtue. When it's too loud, you're too old, and they who are loudest win.

Right now, the loudest band in music is Swans. The New York-based noise rock band, who formed in 1983 and reunited in 2010 after a 13-year layoff. The band has been reported to hit 140 decibels, which is the same volume as a jet engine passing 100 feet above your head. Since Swans will be playing several Canadian dates in the next few weeks, including Toronto's North by Northeast festival, we thought it would be a great time to look at some of the other loudest bands ever.

All of them are great, and we would heartily recommend that you see every single still-active band on this list. Just remember to bring earplugs. Seriously. Even the members of these bands would tell you that. (Except for possibly Lemmy, that guy seems pretty reckless as a whole.)
