Late last year, the emerging producer/DJ ZOSIA graced us with a journey-like mix driven by classy, minimal house and techno. Since then, she’s been refining her skills in the studio, and her time and effort is surely starting to pay off. ZOSIA recently released her personally meaningful debut song, “Marma,” and has received nothing but glowing feedback. The tune features deep, dubby low-end, brooding textures, just the right amount of percussion, and an overall, stripped down arrangement, forming a vibe reminiscent of Recondite, one of Berlin’s finest. Enjoy, grab the free download, and read on about its important context within ZOSIA’s life.
“The inspiration behind Marma is the concept of personal growth. Everything we create in the present moment is a reflection of all that we have learned and experienced in the past. In other words, Marma is an accumulation of all the memories I have ever experienced, translated into sound.
I’m very shy naturally, so instead of forcing myself to become an extrovert I decided to communicate through what I love the most: sound. Marma is very special to me because it’s the first song I’ve created that truly expresses who I am as a person.
One last thing that I hold close to my heart. It’s a known fact that males dominate the music production industry. I can’t speak for other women, but one of the reasons why it took me so long to release a song is because I kept trying to perfect my skills in fear of not being taken seriously. (Someone once asked me who my ghost producer is! C’mon now, really?!) And whether it’s regarding music or any other passion, I think the world would be a much more cheerful place if we weren’t afraid to face our fears. People will judge either way, but if something makes you happy then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t pursue it proudly.” – ZOSIA
