Polaris Prize shortlisted artist Jessy Lanza has announced she will be releasing her sophomore album entitled Oh No on May 13. The album is the follow up to the Hamilton, Ont.'s artist critically acclaimed debut Pull My Hair Back which was shortlisted for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize. Like her first album, Oh No will be produced by Jeremy Greenspan of the Junior Boys and will be released on his Geej Recordings label in Canada and via UK label Hyperdub elsewhere. The video for the album's first single "It Means I Love You" has been released and can be watched here.
Oh No will reportedly be a more "direct, self-assured and joyful" than Lanza's '90s R&B and electronic pop influenced debut. Lanza's nervousness is the inspiration behind the title and themes accompanying the new record. The singer and producer uses making music as an outlet and the album artwork features plants which also ties into the calming of her nerves.
"I became obsessed with surrounding myself with tropical plants," says Lanza in a release. "I've been convinced that the air quality in our house is slowly killing us. It might sound crazy but the plants have made a huge difference."
Jessy Lanza will be on tour with Junior Boys in March and April across North America ahead of the release of the album. Canadian stops on the tour are listed below. See the full list of dates here
