The Golden Circle is an album that features a pianoless quartet comprising some well-established names from the Italian jazz scene. The album is a tribute to the ground-breaking sound of Ornette Coleman, and takes its title from the name of a venue in Stockholm where Coleman recorded a live double album in 1965. The quartet plays eight Coleman compositions and adds three originals that fit in perfectly with the spirit of the album. The versions of Chronology and Invisible stand out and the title track (a Giuliani composition) and the funky groove of Ramblin’ also deserve a mention. Top stuff!
