The Beta Club - Brassa Nova (Grant Phabao Remix) (Digital Single, Cartel Records/Paris DJs, 2014) Posted: 09 Sep 2014 06:55 AM PDT UK-based collective with branches in L.A., N.Y., San Francisco & Paris, The Beta Club is back with a new joint release from the Cartel Records UK and Paris DJs labels. This second single is a follow-up to the first one released a few months ago on a limited 45. A reggae-fied take on their 'Brassa Nova' scorcher, gloriously remixed by French producer Grant Phabao into a post-summer balearic anthem, and featuring French keyboardist supreme Soul Sugar on clavinet! While the original could be imagined as something close to The Budos Band recording a song for a Steven Soderbergh or a Kim Jee Woon soundtrack with David Holmes, with influences ranging from David Axelrod, Ennio Morricone & John Barry to Joe Cuba, Lee Perry, Norman Whitfield, Antibalas or The Poets Of Rhythm, this new Grant Phabao remix leans now towards a really unique tropical piece of sacred instrumental music. A half-Jamaican and half-cinematic soundtrack to the best memories of your life. This is a tune pleading for a 45 vinyl release… something that hopefully should see the light in Paris DJs upcoming second boxset in the 'Vinyl Is Good For You' series. Captain Détendu - Détendu (Digital Single, Jewpop Records, 2014) Posted: 12 Feb 2014 05:15 AM PST Thanks to the Paris DJs & Jewpop crews, here's an incredible occasion to both learn French and get relaxed with this 1st Captain Détendu single. A Master of hypnotic rhythms and stupid samples, Captain Détendu expresses here his deep love of Hawaiian music, wha wha guitars and bongoes. Tthe 'granpa' voice you'll hear all along this track comes from the cult 1960s recording 'Le Disque Qui Guérit', a.k.a. 'The Record That Heals', by French fakir Yvon Yva. 'Détendu' is a French word for cool, relaxed, easygoing… So is this electro-downtempo or funky-exotica lounge? Nope, this is the ultimate 'Détendu' formula: peaceful music + out-of-step humour = absolute happiness! As the fakir Yvon Yva said: 'un infini bien-être s'empare de vous' (an infinite well-being sensation flows over you)… Produced by the wizard dubmeister Grant Phabao, Captain Détendu's anthem 'Détendu' will bring you calm and serenity, and a better understanding of the French language. Listen at least twice a day for a better results. Now, mademoiselle and monsieur, let's be 'détendu'! Buy on bandcamp or junodownload

Grant Phabao presents The Jays - Agatha (Digital Single, Paris DJs, 2013) Posted: 09 Nov 2013 06:40 AM PST 'Agatha' is the fourth single extracted from The Jays roots reggae masterpiece 'Stepping Up In Time', after 'Don't Sell You Soul' released on a Jamaican 45 in 2009, the title track 'Stepping Up In Time', and 'African Man', both released digitally at the beginning of 2013. While still shining a bright light on the traditional roots reggae sound of 70s Jamaica, with a Rockers, stomping, Roots Reggae original version that's gonna bring a BIG smile to one foot jumpers in the dancehalls, French producer Grant Phabao keeps on twisting the Caribbean Island vibe with a Heavy Rock remix for all the bluesy bourbon-drinking heads out there, holding The Jays as fresh as ever!!
