Jessy Lanza releases new single and announces upcoming album, Oh No

Polaris Prize shortlisted artist Jessy Lanza has announced she will be releasing her sophomore album, entitled Oh No, on May 13.

The album is the followup to the Hamilton, Ont., artist's critically acclaimed debut, Pull My Hair Back, which was shortlisted for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize. Like her first album, Oh No will be produced by Jeremy Greenspan of the Junior Boys and will be released on his Geej Recordings label in Canada and via U.K. label Hyperdub elsewhere. The video for the album's first single, "It Means I Love You," has been released. Watch it below.

Oh No will reportedly be more "direct, self-assured and joyful" than Lanza's '90s R&B and electronic pop-influenced debut, according to the press release. Lanza's nervousness is the inspiration behind the title and themes accompanying the new record, as the singer and producer uses music as an outlet. The album artwork, featuring plants,o ties into the calming of Lanza's nerves.

"I became obsessed with surrounding myself with tropical plants," said Lanza in the release. "I've been convinced that the air quality in our house is slowly killing us. It might sound crazy but the plants have made a huge difference."

Lanza will be on tour with Junior Boys in March and April across North America ahead of the release of the album. Canadian stops on the tour are listed below. See the full list of dates here.

Canadian tour dates

March 10: Vancouver, Imperial Theatre

April 8: London, London Music Hall
