[GDD™ PREMIERE] Michael Rosa – Sound Engineer (David Scuba Remix) + Michael Rosa Q&A

Property of Gotta Dance Dirty

After releasing Bells & Whistle’s Hands EP just a couple of months ago, Desert Hearts Records delivers the tasteful, 2-track Sound Engineer EP from Orlando’s own Michael Rosa, along with remixes from Halo & Ché, Butane, and David Scuba.  Having attended and played last year’s Desert Hearts Spring festival, Rosa mentioned that this psychedelia-drenched, tech-house EP “truly is a Desert Hearts inspired release,” and it was created “with the 70 hour experience in mind,” which is clearly apparent upon first listen. It’s a dance floor-centric offering that’s sure to ignite clubs and festivals far and wide.

In conjunction with the release, we have the pleasure of premiering David Scuba’s rendition of the title track, “Sound Engineer.” The Superfreq boss has transformed the track with his own techy touch, using a new groove, subtle percussive accents, sound effects, and pulsating synth work for a tripped-out remix. Check out the remix above, listen to the whole EP below, and read more about Michael Rosa in our Q&A where he discusses how his new EP came together, his new party, Rabbithole, how he linked up with Desert Hearts, and more after the jump.

GDD™: We have a first question tradition here at GDD. What do you like to drink?
Michael Rosa: I’m definitely a Black Label On The Rocks guy. Other than that I really enjoy all kinds of craft beers.

GDD™: What have you been up to recently?
MR: I have been super busy running the label which has been a complete success. We’re pretty much scheduled out till March 2016 with some amazing artists new and old. And actually we just started a series of new events here in orlando called Rabbithole, which are late night events that go till early morning hours. We actually have Mikey Lion on our upcoming show on August 22nd. We also have a new concept we’ll be launching were we do all day Sunday parties including all you can eat brunch an drinks. I’ve also been touring in between all this. I just came back from Puerto rico where we hosted one of our Rabbithole events. So i’m keeping busy an getting ready for whatever is next.

GDD™: We’ve been loving your Sound Engineer EP. What can you tell us about the release?
MR: The EP truly is a Desert Hearts inspired release and it’s pretty much the soundscape I’ve worked on over the years to develop. I attended and played Desert Hearts last year which was a completely new experience for me and when I finally came home and got back in the studio there was only one direction I had in mind. I wrote out Sound Engineer and Habitual with the 70 hour experience in mind. When I sent it to Mikey Lion just as promo, I mentioned it was unreleased he was all over it. Naturally being lost in the desert for 3 days, the release has the residues of a desert party and made its way home on Desert Hearts Records.

GDD™: As a promoter, artist, and label head, you seem to be treading upon a similar path as the Desert Hearts crew. How did you first link up with them? What does Desert Hearts mean to you?
MR: I was staying in Miami and Denver at the time and had a residency with the P.U.N.C.H.I.S. guys at Beta in Denver. I received an email asking to play Desert Hearts in Southern California. So I did some research and quickly found out about the event which I was excited to fly out and play. Seeing and meeting the whole amazing crew and how they run their events truly inspired me. I was meeting a whole society of people just as passionate for the music and culture as I was, but just across the other side of the country. Naturally we kept an ongoing relationship and Mikey did a remix for Early Morning Music and completely murdered it. I also saw the release of my Queen Re-Edit on their label and finally the whole EP which I’ve been very excited about releasing. Their whole crew has been very supportive of my music in the past also. I almost feel like our paths have ben set to cross and morph by the planets and stars.

GDD™: What are your plans for the rest of the year and beyond?
MR: Other than running the label and our local events I’m looking for an agency to handle my bookings in North and South America to free up some more time so I can focus more in the studio and put my energy to work where it counts.
