Paul Kalkbrenner Unveils ‘Feed Your Head’ Featuring Vocal Sample of Jefferson Airplane From Forthcoming Album 7

Paul Kalkbrenner today unveiled the third track from his forthcoming album 7, ‘Feed Your Head’, which samples the Jefferson Airplane track ‘White Rabbit’. The track is accompanied by the concluding video in Droga5’s FLORIAN video trilogy.

‘Feed Your Head’ is quintessential Kalkbrenner; lush, melodic, powerful and rich techno, a track able to augment rather than be overshadowed by the incredible and iconic vocals of Jefferson Airplane’s Grace Slick on ‘White Rabbit’. It’s another tantalizing reminder, from an artist 20 years into a career, that techno doesn’t have to be purely functional, it can be emotive, ecstatic, dark or hopeful, elements that are all represented on the forthcoming album 7.

‘Feed Your Head’ marks the conclusion of Droga5’s FLORIAN video trilogy, the final installment seems to offer the viewer a hopeful conclusion. Florian gives a triumphant performance at a talent show, in which his tormentors from previous videos join him one by one in dancing and celebrating techno… but all is not as it seems.

The FLORIAN trilogy features the tracks ‘Cloud Rider,’ ‘Mothertrucker,’ and ‘Feed your Head.’ The series follows a fictional character named Florian; a young foreigner who compulsively shares the music he loves with strangers, though ends up getting rejected. It is meant to parallel the peculiar outsider role of the electronic dance music genre in the US.

Whether breaking chart records, selling out arenas in Europe, starring in a movie or soundtracking Berlin’s electronic explosion, Paul Kalkbrenner has lived and breathed techno since growing up in the shadow of the Wall in East Berlin, where he continues to live today.

His new album is both a continuation and evolution of the singular style that has seen Paul amass millions of fans world-wide. Musically as uncompromising as any of his previous albums, 7sees Paul return to using vocals for the first time since his record-breaking anthem, ‘Sky & Sand’.

After signing with Columbia | Sony International Paul was the first artist ever be given access to the master vaults and tapes of Sony and Columbia, where he chose to sample vocals from D-Train (Cloud Rider), Jefferson Airplane and Luther Vandross.

7 comes at the end of a milestone twelve months for Kalkbrenner, last year he was asked by the German Government to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, by performing in front of Brandenburg Gate to over 500,000 people. While in March, after releasing on independent labels for 15 years (10 years at Bpitch Control and 5 years on his own label), Paul signed a long-term deal with Sony International | Columbia.

The release of 7 will be accompanied by a brand new Paul Kalkbrenner live show, featuring a completely bespoke stage and production design to accompany the new material.

Rustie Digs His Claws In With “Big Catzz”

Rusite has just dropped a banger on his Soundcloud called ‘Big Catzz’.

It’s a thumper that builds pace and its heavy percussion sounds like a throwback to Rustie’s debut album, ‘Glass Swords’, released on Warp.

Recently he’s also done massive remixes of Jack Ü’s ‘Where Are Ü Now’ and Big Dope P’s ‘Hit Da Blokk’.

In the past year, Rustie hasn’t stopped, collaborating with Danny Brown and D Double E, he’s just finished his North American tour and will head Reading and Leeds Festival this Summer.

Listen to ‘Big Catzz’ below and download it for free.
