100 Word Review: Le Grand Escroc - Portraits

Label: Comedy Tonight/Space Shower Music

Released: June 2014

A few years on from his Je Suis Snob album, DJ and producer Makoto Miura returns with a new project, under the assumed name of Le Grand Escroc. Joined by guest musicians from Fox Capture Plan, TRI4TH, Jazz Collective and more, Portraitsis an album of jazzy tunes inspired by ‘five misters’ and ‘five monsieurs’, all important nineteenth and twentieth century cultural figures. There’s a definite swinging party feel throughout the album with tracks like Monsieur Cocteau, Monsieur Diaghilev, the jazz waltz of Mister Jarmusch and the superb Mister Kerouac worth a mention. A superb album from start to finish.
