porter-robinson-kiss-presen
On November 14th, Porter Robinson announced his brand new deal with label Astralwerks, in which he will be releasing his brand new LP, expected in early 2014. The North Carolina native has been known primarily as a DJ, rather than as a producer.
Porter Robinson wants that to chance. In a recent interview with Billboard, Porter sat down to talk about his future as a DJ and how he wants to change the perception around him and music. He first opens up by saying that he will be taking a backseat from being just a DJ, and instead focus on a new live show experience.
Obviously I can't continue doing the normal DJ thing, at least as my main thing. That doesn't ever preclude me DJing again. Just knowing myself, I could see myself doing this live show and just being like, 'Man, how fun was it back when I used to like, bang it out or whatever.' It feels weird for me to say that now because I don't feel that at all. I could see myself doing after-parties or maybe a side tour. A lot of bands have their DJ set. That's something that I'm certainly going to be open to.
Porter Robinson, who still lives at home with his family where he studio is located, describes that the role of the DJ is not the same for him as it originally was for him when he first started DJing at the age of 16.
The DJ role, it's never been a big thing for me. In the last couple years, there was definitely a moment where I got excited about DJing, but I feel like as this world of high energy Main Stage dance music has gotten bigger, it's sacrificed musicality to be very functional on the dancefloor.
With his album almost complete, Porter Robinson has described artists such as M83, Sleigh Bells, Daft Punk and Kanye West as massive influences on him, due to their unique musical depth.
I wanted to do something that felt beautiful and emotional and that felt nostalgic. I think it sort of employs the pretty vibe of the last couple songs I put out, like 'Language' and 'Easy,' but I wanted a vintage sound. Something that was a little more lo-fi-inspired. It has a bunch of weird tempos that dance people aren't really doing. There's no DJ-friendly intro and outro. It's meant to be listening music. It's not a party record at all.
When describing the new album, it is very reminiscent of what artist such as Mat Zo, Avicii, and Pretty Lights have done with their new albums; not sticking to the norm of what the mainstream is blasting out these days, but more incorporating different sounds and rhythms into their music.

Dance Red Save Lives Vol 2
When partying with Dada Life, there is one thing to remember, and that is the rules of Dada. On November 25th, Dada Life, along with some of the world’s biggest and best DJs have teamed up to help in the fight against AIDS with Dance (Red), Save Lives2. Each artist has contributed a new or exclusive release for the album, and today, Dada Life has released a preview of their track for the album.
For Dance (Red), Save Lives2, Dada Life has created a new track with Josh Wink, ‘Higher State of Dada Land‘. Their infamous Dada Land compound shows has been sweeping across the nation, so it is only appropriate to name the song after that. In the preview, a disenchanted distorted voice cries out, “A higher state of Dada Land” as a slow buildup occurs with an acid house melody. The acid house continues into the break as the drum kicks in the acid chirp (as I am now calling it), powers over the song and shots into your ear drums.
It is something new and interesting to see from Dada Life. While this is only a short preview, it will be exciting to see what the rest of the song holds. You can get your copy of ‘Higher State of Dada Land‘ when you purchase your copy of Dance (Red), Save Lives2 on November 25th. All proceeds from the album will go to the fight against AIDS.

There are many things to be grateful for around Thanksgiving. Saying thanks for the things you have, eating plenty of delicious food, drinking heavily with your family, watching football on the TV while someone is passed out with their pants off. But before you go home this Thanksgiving, why not enjoy a different type of feast over at Webster Hall.
That is right. This Wednesday, November 27th, Webster Hall is hosting a very special Thanksgiving Eve event called, THE FEAST. And as your special headliner for this night, Webster Hall has called upon the incredible talent of Sultan + Ned Shepard. This dynamic duo has been tearing up the scene with their tracks ‘All The Roads’, their collaborations with Fedde le Grand ‘Long Way Home’ and ‘No Good’ and off course their track with the talented NERVO ‘Army’. Joining Sultan + Ned Shepard at Webster Hall is incredible rising talent Henry Fong, vocalist Foxes performing LIVE, Mysto & Pizzi, Dehasse, & Alex English. Then you can head down to the BASSment with Adam F, Roksonix, Brown & Gammon, Subset. Or if you want to listen to more mainstream music, head over to the Marlin Room with DLO and Sean Sharp for Top 40 all night long.
Ticket holders who show up to the event before 11:30pm with a canned or non-perishable food item will get 1 drink ticket from Webster Hall. Also Webster Hall will be serving free mashed potatoes in the Bass Cave so if you ever need a food break, head down there.
So this Thanksgiving Eve, get STUFFED and get MASHED at THE FEAST over at Webster Hall. Doors open at 10pm and this event is 19+.
