Denderah by Georgia Anne Muldrow as Jyoti

Denderah cover art

From the multi-talented singer/songwriter/producer Georgia Anne Muldrow comes the second installment in her instrumental electronic jazz series under the alias Jyoti. Written, produced, arranged & performed by Muldrow the album was inspired by her father, mother, and spiritual mentor, Alice Coltrane. Taping into her Ancestral Orchestra this one woman band fuses the elements to create this unique landscape of sound. Differing from her debut Jyoti release, Denderah serves as a more straight-ahead jazz.

Ocotea, the first installment under the Jyoti moniker received critical acclaim in the press and would go on to be chosen by UK tastemaker Gilles Peterson as the Jazz Album Of The Year at his 2011 Worldwide Awards. The Jyoti alias is a name given to her by her spiritual mentor, Alice Coltrane

Born in Los Angeles California, Georgia’s jazz roots stemmed from her parents. Her father, Ronald Muldrow, an accomplished multiinstrumentalist best known for his work with Eddie Harris. Her mother, Rickie-Byars Beckwith, singer/songwriter/composer who served as lead singer for Pharoah Sanders Ensemble, Roland Hanna, Howard Johnson & The New York Jazz Quartet. These early influences lead her to start writing, composing and playing instruments before reaching the early age of 10. Georgia would later move to New York after graduating high school to attend the New School’s Jazz program where she met fellow musicians Robert Glasper & Bilal, both of which she continues to work with.
